Tiny-Tots & Mini-Movers Recitals

Our littlest students will have the opportunity to perform towards the end of each semester! Our Dec Holiday recital will be more informal and will be held during regular class time. No purchased costumes needed for the Holiday recital. Our end of year Spring recital is held separately on a Sat or Sun and performed with other classes in a purchased costume. Both events are held at the Academy, all family are welcome to attend. Complete spring recital & costume info is available in mid Dec, costume fee’s due the beginning of Feb.

Nutcracker Levels 3-7

All students in levels 3-7 are strongly encouraged (but not required) to participate, even beginner students! Audition is REQUIRED for casting purposes and all dancers auditioning are cast, no one is turned away for lack of training! Detailed information available Aug 2, audition is Fri Sept 17 for levels 3-5; Sat Sept 18 for levels 6 & 7. Rehearsals run Oct-Dec for levels 3-5 & Sept-Dec for levels 6 & 7. Performances: Dec 17-19, 2010.

Spring Showcase Levels 3-7

2011 Theme: Silver Screen-Take 3! Our end of year all Academy show features a different theme each year and showcases all the learning students have accomplished the past two semesters of class. This year we will AGAIN showcase music and dance from television and movies both past and present because there’s so much of it and it’s so FUN! All students are expected (but not required) to participate: Levels 3 and 4 will learn ALL their dances during classroom time, Levels 5-7 will rehearse ballet outside of class time on Fri or Sat. Performances: May 27 & 28, 2011.

SYCD-Youth Community Dancers Levels 4-5

A performing group open to dancers that are extremely motivated to further their dance training, like being at the studio and love performing! Students must display a strong commitment to dance and be available weekends for performances when scheduled, which are mandatory. 3 community shows will be scheduled for 2010-11 in Sept, Feb & May, and SYCD dancers will dance in every scheduled performance of the Nutcracker and Silver Screen-Take 3, plus our restaging of the popular comedy ballet ‘Coppelia’ in May 2011. This means LOTS of stage time and ALL DANCERS ARE ACCEPTED!

ACE-Competition Ensemble Levels 5-7

An opportunity for students wanting the excitement and thrill of performing in a competition setting for judges critique and additional performing experience. Dancers may possibly perform choreography in jazz, modern, lyrical, ballet or pointe. Admittance is by conference only and students must approach the director if interested. Ensemble students must take a minimum of classes weekly to participate, including their assigned ensemble classes and maintain excellent attendance throughout the ENTIRE year. 2-3 regional and 1 local national competition will be attended. ALL competitions will be in Dayton or Cincinnati and are scheduled for weekends. See separate ACE info for more details on dates, class requirements and cost.

Spring Solos Levels 4-7

An opportunity to learn and perform a solo in a dance style of your choice at the Spring Solo Showcase. Work in a private lesson setting to rehearse and polish a dance for performance and learn what it takes to hold the stage on your own (no pressure there!). Solo lessons may begin in Jan or Mar and run through May, are 1/2 hour in length for at least 10 weeks and detailed info available in early Dec.

Class Attire, Hair, and Jewelry

Levels 1 & 2: Solid color leotard or dance dress, bare legs, socks or pink tights (with or without feet), pink leather Capezio, Bloch or LEO’S ballet slippers. For TAP, pink or white lace up tap shoes. (no special shoes for L2-Jazz are necessary, students will wear their ballet shoes) NO BLACK BALLET OR TAP SHOES, no costumes or skirts below the knees for class please. Level 3: BALLET-Solid color leotard or dance dress, short skirt, bare legs, socks or pink, tan or black tights (with or without feet), pink leather Capezio, Bloch or LEO’S ballet slippers. NO BLACK BALLET SHOES, no costumes or skirts below the knees for class please. NOTE** Jazz pants, shorts, jazz skirts or skorts may be worn for tap, jazz, hip hop or modern part of class only. No dance dresses for hip hop please!
For TAP, pink or white lace up tap shoes (no black tap shoes).
For JAZZ, Bloch tan leather lace-up jazz shoes (no black jazz shoes).
For Hip Hop, white soled CLEAN sneakers or gym shoes, any style, mostly white shoes preferred-can have colors or decorations on them.
For MODERN, convertible or footless tights and bare feet (no modern sandals needed for L3).

Levels 1-3 Hair & Jewelry: Hair should be pulled up off the face and neck in a pony tail (buns welcome but uncomfortable for mat work) or pinned back on the sides for short hair. Top of head should have nothing to poke dancer during a somersault. Headbands must not fall off. NO jewelry please, except tiny earrings if dancer has pierced ears.

Ballet, Ladies Level 4-7: Any color solid color leotard, pink, tan or black tights, pink leather split sole BLOCH or LEO’S ballet shoes (NO BLACK BALLET SHOES). Short chiffon pull on or wrap skirts, solid color shirts or tight fitting dance warm ups may be worn with instructor approval only. NO DANCE DRESSES, costumes, skirts below the knees, jazz pants or gym style shorts may be worn for ballet class.

Pre-Pointe, Pointe, Variations, Ladies Level 5-7: Same as ballet, plus you MUST wear a short wrap skirt.

Jazz & Musical Theater, Ladies Levels 4-7: Any color solid color leotard, tan, pink or black tights (full footed or footless). Levels 4/5: BLOCH tan split sole leather lace up jazz shoes. Level 6/7: Capezio stretch jazz boot-caramel. NO BLACK JAZZ SHOES or dance dresses. Jazz pants, short a-line skirt or shorts may be worn with instructor approval.

Lyrical Jazz, Ladies Levels 4-7:
Same as ballet attire with convertible tights, footless tights and/or tight fitting capri or jazz pants & LEO’S ILLUSION MODERN FOOT WEAR. NO DANCE DRESSES, loose fitting or baggy style pants, shorts or any skirts may be worn.

Modern, Ladies Levels 4-7: Same as ballet/jazz attire with convertible tights, footless tights or tight fitting capri pants, short wrap skirts & LEO’S ILLUSION MODERN FOOT WEAR. NO DANCE DRESSES, jazz pants, loose fitting or baggy style pants, gym style shorts or long skirts.

Tap & Musical Theater, Ladies Levels 4-7: Same as ballet/jazz attire. LEVEL 4 & 5 TAP SHOES: tan buckle strap-Bloch ‘Showtapper’. LEVEL 6 & 7 TAP SHOES: black lace up taps (possibly later in the year: tan character heel taps). CHECK WITH INSTRUCTOR FOR CORRECT STYLE SHOES FOR YOUR LEVEL.

Hip Hop, Ladies Levels 4-5: Any color solid color leotard, beige, pink or black tights (full footed or footless), WHITE SOLED sneakers or athletic shoes (must NOT be worn outside) solid color baggy cargo or capri pants-must be stretchy or roomy enough to move comfortably in.

Ballet, Jazz, Tap & Modern-Gentlemen: Solid color shirt, black tights or leggings, white socks & white split sole ballet shoes. For jazz & tap: black oxford style shoes and jazz pants may be worn. For modern: bare feet with LEO’S ILLUSION MODERN FOOT WEAR.

Hip Hop, Gentlemen Levels 4-5: Solid color shirt, baggy cargo pants (stretchy or roomy enough to move in), WHITE SOLED sneakers or athletic shoes (must NOT be worn outside).

Levels 4-7 Hair & Jewelry: Hair should be pulled up off the face and neck and firmly attached to the back of the head in a bun. Very short hair should be pinned back or put in a pony tail. NO ONE MAY TAKE A L4-7 CLASS WITH THEIR HAIR DOWN, unless specified for a reason by the instructor. No jewelry for class except for small rings and earrings.

PLEASE NOTE Levels 4-7: NO WARMUPS, SHIRTS OR SKIRTS may be worn into the month of Oct for any BALLET CLASS, leotards & tights only!!! This Academy policy is strictly adhered to EVERY YEAR! ‘Extra’s’ may be worn only for rehearsals during this time. You must earn them with proper placement and etiquette, your teacher will tell you when your class may wear these items!
