CREATIVE DANCE SUMMER PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS 2008

 

CREATIVE DANCE 1 Sampler Classes-age 3:  A 45 min class held 3 days in a row, Tues-Thurs, based on ballet steps done entirely center floor. Designed to teach our youngest students how to dance through structured exercises and imaginative free dancing. Correct ballet terminology is used along with hand held props for parts of class to help discover all forms of movement. Body and music awareness, memory exercises, moving in different directions, basic tumbling and classroom etiquette are taught with an emphasis on dancing being a joyful expression.

Tues-Thurs,  45 min ea class  (2.25 hrs per week) $35 per week (discounts offered for multiple weeks)

MORNING CD1 Sampler classes, 9-9:45 am:  June 24-26,  July 15-17,  Aug 5-7

EVENING CD1 Sampler classes, 6-6:45 pm:  July 8-10,  July 22-24

 

CREATIVE DANCE 2 Sampler Classes-age 4-5:  A 1 hour class held 3 days in a row, Tues-Thurs, as above with 15 extra minutes to explore more ballet, plus jazz and tap.  Tues class will focus on ballet for the entire class, Wed class will introduce tap movements (with or without tap shoes) & Thurs class will introduce jazz, so students may try all the different class themes offered at their age level.

Tues-Thurs,  1 hr ea. class  (3 hrs per week)  $40 per week (discounts offered for multiple weeks)

MORNING CD2 Sampler classes, 9-10 am:  June 24-26,  July 15-17,  Aug 5-7

EVENING CD2 Sampler classes, 6-7 pm:  July 8-10,  July 22-24

 

CREATIVE CAMPS-ages 5-7:  Each 3.5 hr day camp will include 2 different dance classes (related to the main camp theme), a dance video presentation, coloring &/or craft time, snack & lunch time & choreography time to prepare a small performance in costume for family to watch at the end of the day.

Tues or Thurs, 9:30 am-1 pm  (3.5 hrs per camp)  $45 per camp (discounts offered for multiple camps)

Blossoming Ballerinas: An all ballet camp with a focus on the classical ballet’s Coppelia and Swan Lake. Students will portray a dancing doll and a dancing swan in addition to learning about the ethnic folk dancing from these two ballets. Ballet shoes only needed for this camp.

Camp dates:  June 24 & July 22,  9:30 am-1 pm

It's Modern: A ballet and modern dance camp focusing on the Mendelssohn score, A Midsummer Nights Dream. Students will portray dancing ‘Fairies’ and also explore how emotions and moods are connected with modern dance. Ballet shoes and bare feet needed for this camp.

Camp dates:  June 26 & July 24,  9:30 am-1 pm

Razz-Ma-Jazz: A jazz camp (with some ballet) focusing on two styles of jazz dance, Broadway and Hip Hop. Disney music and age appropriate selections from the Broadway shows Annie, Cats and Wicked will be used to emphasize the different movement styles. Beige jazz shoes OR ballet shoes (if you don’t have jazz shoes) needed for this camp.

Camp dates:  July 8 & Aug 5,  9:30 am-1 pm

Tip Top Tap: A tap camp (with some ballet) concentrating on Broadway style tap to age appropriate music from the Broadway scores 42nd Street, Seussical and Wicked. Ballet and tap shoes are needed for this camp.

Camp dates:  July 10 & Aug 7,  9:30 am-1 pm

Jr. CAMPS & Jr. & Sr. WORKSHOPS SUMMER 2008

Wk 1: June 24-26           Wk 2: July 1-3              Wk 3: July 8-10           Wk 4: July 15-17

Wk 5: July 22-24             Wk 6: July 29-31           Wk 7: Aug 5-7

 

Jr. Day Camps Weeks 1, 3, 5 & 7 Academy levels 4 & 5, dancers ages 8-10

Each one-day camp will include 2 different dance theme related classes, a video presentation, dance history session, snack & lunch time & choreography class to prepare a small performance for presentation at the end of each camp. Costumes will be provided for the mini show! These camps are terrific FUN from start to finish!

Tues or Thurs 9 am-1:30 pm,   4.5 hrs. ea. camp  $50 per camp

Mainly Musicals (July 10 & August 7)  Learn Broadway and Rockette style classical jazz to music from famous musicals. Dancers will also work with top hats, canes and chairs as props.

Mostly Modern:  (July 8 & August 5)  Learn many different modern techniques including falling, dancing off balance and entirely on the floor. Circular lyrical skirts will be provided for dancers to learn to use.

Hip Hop Stomp (June 26 & July 24)  Learn current hip hop styles & how to use ‘street percussion’ as music for dance! Basic beginner break dance moves will also be learned.

Jubilation:  (June 24 & July 22)  Learn modern & contemporary ballet to all Christian music as a celebration of joy! Abstract dance and dance story telling to specific lyrics will be explored and presented.

 

Dream and Dance Workshop:  Week 2-Ballet, 4-Modern & 6-Jazz:  Academy levels 4-8, dancers ages 8 & up

If you are always making up dances and feeling creative, but need more people to work with, this is for you! Don’t like to choreograph? You can still attend and participate fully; those that do choreograph will need dancers to execute their steps! Learn the craft of choreography and with your classmates dream up a dance to be performed from start to finish. Each three-day workshop will include a warm up dance class each day, a choreography class learn about the fundamentals of spacing, formations, step repetition and counting and guided open studio time to create and prepare a dance for presentation at the end of each workshop on Thursday. Music may be chosen by staff, however, if you have your own selection in mind, you must submit it to the director on a CD with a short description of your idea at least 1 week prior to the workshop. Depending upon enrollment, students may be working with small or large groups. Ballet shoes and bare feet only are needed (no jazz shoes needed), plus your imagination. All dances choreographed are eligible to possibly be chosen to be set on Academy students for performance in costume and on stage next year! Let the dreaming begin!   Tues-Thurs 9:30 am-Noon,  2.5 hrs ea day, 3 days week (7.5 hrs)  $60 per week

 

Jr. & Sr. Workshops Weeks 1, 3, 5 & 7:

Academy levels 5-8, dancers ages 11 & up   2.5 hrs ea day, 3 days week (7.5 hrs)   $60 per week

Ballet/Jazz (weeks 3 & 7): Each 3 day workshop will include daily ballet, pointe & jazz classes. For ballet, barre work, stretching, center floor & across the floor movement exercises will be a part of every class. Students on pointe may choose to participate on pointe during the class, but it is NOT required to take the workshop. Jazz technique including isolations, floor stretching, core strengthening, center and progressive exercises across the floor will be given. Broadway Jazz, Hip Hop & Latin jazz may be studied during the week.

Ballet/Modern (weeks 1 & 5): Each 3 day workshop will include daily ballet, pointe & modern classes. For ballet, barre work, stretching, center floor & across the floor movement exercises will be a part of every class. Students on pointe may choose to participate on pointe during the class, but it is NOT required to take the workshop. Modern technique that explores different ways to move through space with more connection to the floor, as well as self expression & feelings & emotions related to music & movement will be taught.

Jr. Workshop students: if you are beginning pointe over the summer, you must sign up for 3 workshops.
